9/11 : The NORAD tapes

With yet another anniversary of 9/11 around the corner, I continue to be astounded by the horror of that day. We were way out of harms way, in Ashland WI, on the southern shore of Lake Superior, and yet I watched CNN with terror that WWIII were starting. I couldn't read all of this feature in Vanity Fair. com without feeling the horror or crying a bit for innocence lost, but I link this because it is well written and thought-provoking. I wonder if we are any wiser, any smarter, any more ready to deal with such a threat today. Somehow, I doubt it.

karen...i have a very difficult time when it comes to remembering 9/11..i was working in downtown cleveland at the time at a brokerage firm most of the guys in the office have tv tuned in to the various cable news stations
eric called us early birds into his office after the first plane hit...we watched in horror as the second plane crashed into the second tower...downtown was evacuated because the 4th plane did a turn around over cleveland...it took hours to clear the city...what a major mess...the mayor at that time came up with a plan for mass evacuation if the situation ever arose again..when i got home i had a friend call and tell me that the bldg i worked --the terminal tower---was on a list of targets in the city that terriorists would hit...that made me feel real secure...then i received a call from a friend who lived in al to let me know that a plane had been moved so authorities could check if for bombs...the airport is approx 15 min from my house...for the rest of the week we all got to listen and see destruction of what had happened...we had futures offices in one of the bldgs...they all were very lucky and managed to get out safely..one of the men i talked to was a volunteer fireman...i never asked him about it and he never talked about what he saw or heard...i dont think i will ever forget that day...i know that i will never be able to see any of the movies pertaining to 9/11..it is way to emotional for me....
i pray that some day people will learn that violence does not solve anything it just makes matters worse...cousin lana

I was teaching a class all that morning. I had no idea what had happened until 11:30 or so. I found out because the class included looking at websites for integrity and as an example, we looked at CNN.com. It had been hacked a few weeks prior to that, and as we looked at it that morning, it was a white page, no default background. I was sure it was a hack. Wishful thinking.
